PortAventura from Barcelona

"We went with two kids age 7 and 11 and both had a blast. PortAventura has rides for every age and the Sesame Aventura area is perfect for younger ones. The direct train from Sants is comfortable and we arrived ahead of friends who drove."

Aquarium and Cosmocaixa

"The Aquarium shark tunnel had our 4 year old speechless for half an hour. Cosmocaixa is a 100 percent recommend, we spent 4 hours and time flew. The flooded Amazon hall is amazing. Both ideal for rainy or extreme heat days."

Sitges Day Trip

"We took the Renfe train to Sitges and the kids loved Sant Sebastia beach. We ate at one of the chiringuitos on the promenade and were back in time for a hotel nap. The perfect day if you want a family beach without the Barceloneta crowds."

PortAventura World is the top theme park in Spain and is 1 hour south of Barcelona by direct train or car. It combines PortAventura Park with themed areas for all ages, Ferrari Land for speed fans and Caribe Aquatic Park for summer. Tibidabo, inside Barcelona, is the best option for younger kids because it has calmer rides and city views.

L’Aquarium de Barcelona with its shark tunnel, Cosmocaixa for the flooded Amazon hall, Parc de la Ciutadella to run and see ducks, Tibidabo with its century old carousels and the Funicular de Montjuic. The beaches at Bogatell or Castelldefels also work well for the smallest because the sand is fine and the surf gentle.

Cosmocaixa is the star plan because it has more than three hours of interactive exhibits. L’Aquarium, the IMAX cinema, the Chocolate Museum with workshop included, CaixaForum, the Museu Maritim and the indoor Tibidabo are excellent rainy day alternatives.

April to June and September to October offer ideal weather to combine beach with city without the crowds of July and August. Avoid August unless you tolerate 32 degrees with humidity and heavy crowds at every attraction. December is magical with the Christmas markets at Plaza Catalunya and the Santa Llucia fair in front of the cathedral.

The metro is stroller-accessible at most stations (lines L9 and L10 are the best). The Hop on Hop off bus is a hit with kids because they ride on the open upper deck. Children under 4 ride free on metro and public bus. For short day trips Renfe trains to Sitges, Castelldefels or Tarragona are direct from Plaza Catalunya or Sants.

Bogatell and Mar Bella in the city have lifeguards, showers, playgrounds and stroller ramps. Castelldefels at 20 minutes by train is the best option if you want more space and fewer crowds. Sitges is perfect to combine beach with stroll and family lunch. Barceloneta has lots of buzz but less space.

PortAventura usually sells out in August and on May and June weekends, book 2 to 4 weeks ahead. L’Aquarium and Cosmocaixa allow same-day booking but you save queue time with the mobile ticket. Sagrada Familia and Park Guell DO need at least one week ahead even out of season.

Yes. Most tickets and family plans offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before for a full refund. Cancellations less than 24 hours before are not refundable. Check the details of each experience before booking.
